Elvira is the Trakehner Mare of the Year

(Neumuenster) It is not only the young stallions that have their great appearance by the International Trakehner Stallion Market: The selection of the Mare of the Year is also one of the programme highlights of the hippological top event in Schleswig-Holstein. Eleven young ladies, who are mostly winners or reserve winners in their areas, presented themselves to the judging commission and Thomas Nissen, the breeding manager of the Holsteiner Association. Elvira, by E.H. Partout - Schwadroneur was crowned Mare of the Year. "This mare is an absolutely super model that embodies the ideal Trakehner type. "Elvira has a wonderful expression and exceptional movement!" The beautiful bay was bred by Flip Willemsen, is currently owned by René Frannsen from The Netherlands and won in her area when she was tested. The reserve winner was Kimberly, by E.H. King Arthur-Ivernel (Breeder: Nicola Offen), and the title for the best half blood mare went to Olivia, by Prince Thatch xx-Hohenstein (Breeder: Ralph Vogel).

Breeder of the Year
In 2007 the Trakehner Association decided to annually recognize a breeder who has contributed greatly and successfully to the Trakehner breeding world. In 2008 the award went to the Heinen family from Issum. For the past 30 years the family has been breeding Trakehners with character, charm and talent. With heart and understanding the Heinen family knows exactly what is required - always with, not against the horse. The success shows that the Heinen family knows what they are doing. Hans-Peter Heinen was one of the most successful Trakehner breeders in the post war era. The winning stallions Kennedy and E.H. Monteverdi, the premium stallions Guy Laroche, Grafenstolz, Miami Vice and the approved stallions Michelangelo, Kronjuwel, Gipsy King and Kensington come from his time.

The legacy of Hans-Peter Heinen, who passed away far too early, has been continued through his wife Liselotte and also through Peter-Michael and Britta Heinen - in 2007 they presented the winning stallion Grand Passion, by Oliver Twist, at the International Trakehner Stallion Market and were also responsible for the approved stallion Singolo and the mare of the year, Gypsy Flower by Gribaldi! The prize for this honour is a valuable painting from Tempelhueter and 1,000 Euros.

Highlights from Saturday afternoon are the auction of the mares and foals, the approval of the stallions and the proclamation of the Elite stallions.
